For everyone North of Oklahoma, it has been a long and cold winter, and if you’re anything like us, you’ve kept warm by adding on a little extra layer of blubber. Unlike our girls, Natasha Oakley and Devin Brugman, we don’t have the luxury of spending our days in bikinis with the constant pressure to stay fit. Well, it’s April and it’s crunch time! Time to get back in the gym and shred those last few pounds before jumping into short shorts, bathing suits, and tank tops.
Both being college athletes, we know a little something about getting into shape, and doing it quick. Here are our tips, tricks, and cheats for staying healthy and earning your summer body back.
First and foremost is your diet. The saying ‘abs are made in the kitchen’ unfortunately is spot on. Here are some of our favorites:
A tablespoon of peanut butter helps the banana go down. It is vital to incorporate protein into your breakfast routine to start up your metabolism. Peanut butter and banana brings us back to our college days, when it was all we could afford.
Grilled chicken breast and a heaping serving of green veggies will do the trick. Broccoli with salt, pepper, and garlic powder is a favorite of ours.
To curve your chocolate craving you’re probably having right about now, eat a handful of almonds!
Dinner should be a smaller meal than lunch. To make sure of that, we eat a cooked salmon filet on a bed of arugula drizzled with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Strawberries sprinkled with brown sugar and dipped in sour cream. Yes, we said sour cream. Try it- you won’t be disappointed.
Next, it is important to keep your body active and your metabolism going. Hitting the treadmill is one option, but if you’re looking for definition, you better be hitting the weights. Here are some of our go-to exercises for a good burn and fast results:
We’ve all heard it- squat, squat, squat. If you’re looking for that defined and perky butt, squats and walking lunges should be your new best friend.
As Natasha stated in one of her Instagram posts, she does 200 abs a day to keep her midsection in shape. Some of our favorites include the plank, the bicycle, and leg raises.
Arms tend to be a problem spot, especially in photos! To keep your definition defined, we recommend ending every leg workout with some push-ups, side arm and straight arm raises.
The dreaded cardio… The best way to get the most out of your cardio is by alternating between short bursts of high intensity movements and relaxed recovery time. We usually start and end our workouts with cardio exercises such as burpees, sprint intervals, or rowing. Natasha and Devin are often spotted fitting their cardio in by hiking in Runyon Cannon in Los Angeles.

Off days, everyone has them & everyone hates them. Here are a few ways we like to perk up and feel pretty when our face, hair, and body just aren’t having it.
1. Listen to your favorite song
If you look in the mirror first thing and it just says “no”, put on your favorite song and turn it up. Hold off on the rat’s nest, grab your hair brush and let it all out. Sing and dance your little heart out. It will instantly put you in a good mood.
Nothing makes you feel better or more accomplished than a good workout. Exercise releases endorphins (mood boosting chemicals) and make you happy. I think we all know that, thanks to Elle Woods <3.
3. Whiten your teeth
4. Eat Antioxidant Rich Foods
Foods with high levels of antioxidants keep your skin smooth, young, and give it an amazing glow. Eating antioxidant rich foods also means eating healthy to talk about a win/win! Some yummy antioxidant rich foods include: avocado, kale, pecans, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, watermelon, carrots, and cantaloupe.
5. Doll up your lips
Having a great color on you lips will can really compliment your skin tone and make you feel sexy.
6. Reach out to a loved one.
Whether it be a call or a text, reach out to some one who always make you feel good…best friend, sister, boyfriend, mother. Tell them how much your love and appreciate them, oh and don’t forget to laugh! Remember those endorphins Elle taught us about, they’re released when you laugh too!
7. Manicure your nails…because they’re probably all chipped
We’re not saying go spend $50 to make yourself feel better. If you don’t mind shoveling out that kind of cash to get your nails on point then by all means, but if not, opt for the $10 color change or the free at home mani. We cannot feel more strongly about this one, I mean who doesn’t feel 100x better about themselves when their nails are done?!
8. Throw on your favorite pair of jeans
Everyone has that pair of jeans. The pair of jeans that have been to hell and back but still manage to make your butt look amazing. You know what jeans I’m talking about? Go put ’em on.
9. Treat yourself
Have a piece of chocolate, go to Starbucks, get a blow out, or get that clutch you’ve been wanting. Whatever it is that makes you happy, do it!
10. Take a bath
There is always peace of mind knowing that everyday comes to an end, especially if it’s an off day. Indulge in a nice hot bath to end the day, light some candles, and pour a glass of wine. No better way to end the day than relaxing and unwinding in the tub
